When someone tells you that you are ‘worthless, fat, stupid, ugly’ – their harsh judgement is not about you. It is actually a reflection of their own fears and insecurities. Often, these people struggle with that very judgement they project onto others. How they treat others is exactly the same way they evaluate themselves. Their internalisation of negative thoughts is seen manifested in their words and actions. Since we are confident of our own worth, we do not take heart to such criticisms. We can choose to walk away because we are not in need of negativity pervading our lives, especially those untrue reflections of ourselves.
